News

GBR  Site New

No new Cuusoo applications to share this week but I did finish some new code which I am pretty ecstatic about.  It will take some time before the fruits of the code can be really reaped but I got some big plans for it and generating this code base was the first step.

This is an eternally nerdy statement but I am totally psyched about what I will be trying to pull off in the coming weeks.

Lego News

Wow, New Mega scale Sydney Opera House.  Beautiful!

"Name of the Wind" Custom Playing Card Deck closed with Breaking Records

The Name of the Wind Playing Cards came in at at well over $530k crushing the previous record held by Federal 52 for a traditional deck of playing cards.

If you are a fan of Patrick Rothfus, It should have been a no-brainer to support this project.  Also, in a generous turn for a Kickstarter, Since it breached $500,000 Albino Dragon has given a chunk of itself to Pat as a thank you for forming a alliance of awesome with them.

Ghost Control Inc: Ghostbusters meets X-COM!

Ghost Control Inc. looks like a really fun idea.  A mondern take on the original X-COM but creatively swapping out the aliens with ghosts, and, like the some other series of Ghosts capturing characters, property damage is an issue to be dealt with.  .  Isometric turn based strategy has always been one of my favorite game types.  If it has any of the play value of X-COM it looks like a good buy at £8 but the stretch goals are not very inspiring.

Pick of the Week

Lord of the rings: Nazgûl on Fell Beast
by Captainsmog

Support Level: 342

Now THIS is a Fell Beast!  Creatures are so hard to build out with Lego....well, not exactly hard but, hard to do well.   The use of tires for making the neck is excellent and inspired.  Probably a little expensive for a product but just an amazing MOC.   The head is also just perfect, just vicious.

Honorable Mention

Jeep Wrangler
by Jjackson

Support Level: 37

This looks like a real model of a Jeep.  It even has an extra fuel canister.

ATLAS mini model - education/outreach project
by Same

Support Level: 301

This is really blowing up.  I like the idea of technical stuff being displayed as a Lego Model.  Like the Curiosity.  But of Course the Curiosity has a lot more "fun" appeal with, well, you now, space and rocketing at a planet and slamming on the breaks...I think this project needs a bit more of an explanation of how it can be informative, as is the case on all projects of this ilk, but this project has a lot of people behind it.   Come on guys!  There are like 3000 people behind the ATLAS.  That is 3000 votes, and each of you probably know AT LEAST 2 people.  Parents?  Come on.

Chibi Lego builds ( CHIBO'S ) STAR WARS - Obi, Yoda, Anakin
by Darthky

Support Level: 21

I was stunned to see this on Cuusoo, both because they are terrific models with lots of character and because I was figuring Star Wars action figure builds were no longer allowed.  Obviously I was wrong about this and I am glad I am.  These look like so much fun.  I would like to see how well they work in real brick though.

Notables

Narnia: The Dawn Treader
by Skywalker89
Support Level: 27

One of many Narnia sets but probably my favorite.  I am partial to ships (but I don't know that much about Narnia).

Batman World - The Night Patrol
by Kiseng
Support Level: 25

I continue to be surprised that a Bat-signal set has not been made.  Seems like an obvious choice for a small set.

Lego West Coast Customs Series
by Brickmania4u
Support Level: 23

There are a lot of is project with a classic hot rods at this scale but not may with the Hummer of this quality.  If you have a lot of different content, make sure to showcase it.

Shriek
by Lizardman
Support Level: 23
A great MOC but a bit simplistic.  I can't really see this really grabbing people.  But this is a great example of a using a great background image to help express the concept.

Bank of Bricks
by Carreau
Support Level: 23

Wow, This is great design!  This would be a mind blowing MOC to see. Good luck getting to 10k before a Modular Bank comes out though.  Bank seems like a pretty standard progression.

Tribeca
by Carreau
Support Level: 22

Another fantastic MOC, this looks more like a project based around a fire escape though.  I think these half scale Modulars might have the best shot at passing Reviews than the Full scale ones.

Invasion of the Machines
by Naro
Support Level: 22

Another project with a great series of amazing looking MOCs.  The "good guys" look a bit too much like modern desert warfare though for Lego to be comfortable with this theme I imagine.  I admit that might be personal bias though.

Aircraft Hangar
by Loadednrg
Support Level: 22

Fantastic MOC, not a viable product.

FALS lime wagon
by Jbb_777
Support Level: 19

This is a really impressive train car, functional too.  I don't care for stickers that go over more than one piece but that is a bit of a lame complaint.

INFINITY GEAR
by Karonos
Support Level: 17

A cool looking Mecha...but there are a ton of Great looking Mecha on Cuusoo.  Good luck.  Also, Black on Black never shows very well on Cuusoo.

Lego Corporate Aircraft: King Air
by Spider689
Support Level: 17

Another beautiful aircraft from Spider689.  I do wonder what happened to their original posting though.

The Rainbow Villa
by Polaca_uno
Support Level: 13

This has a ho-hum exterior but has a lot of great features.

Airborne Automobile
by Airborne
Support Level: 12

Don't give your projects confusing names, but these are some fantastic mini vehicles.

Imperial State Crown
by Viperboy1012
Support Level: 11

Really very impressive work.

Heroes of the Phantom 300
by Scottjoseph
Support Level: 9

Spirited Story.  Fun Figs.  Good luck finding he audience.

City fire squad
by James.i
Support Level: 6

This is absolutly fantastic.  One of my favorite Fire Engines I have ever seen.  Lego comes out with like Seven every four years though.  No minifig themed Fire engine will ever pass review.  I don't usually say things like that...but I will on this.  As long as Lego continues to do Fireman themes, it won't happen.

The Mega Man Lego Collection - By Raphael Phillips -
by Jehutysan
Support Level: 44

Lots of Megaman characters loosely themed on Lego.  This is the original Zelda project all over again.  Too many new parts, not enough sets.  Even worse, combination of two properties:  Portals and Megaman?  This is fun for t-shirts but not for a licensed product.

The Lord Of The Rings: Siege on Isengard
by Radagasttb1
Support Level: 40

Yeah, this set came out, bad timing dude.  Too bad.  Please guys, don't keep posting to their project that it is.

Nutrition Plate
by Prezbri
Support Level: 38

If the idea is for your Cuusoo project is for Lego to be a "teaching moment."  Please explain how this is to work.  Showing a MOC and saying, "This teaches" is not enough.  Kids do not learn robotics by building a robot out of Lego, now does building a Watermelon teach kids that fruit is healthy?
